HOW WE WORK

Impartiality

CPD is a mission focused organization. The effectiveness of our work depends upon our impartiality.

We are independent and non-partisan in our work, research, and recommendations.

CPD welcomes collaborative relationships with project partners, including funding, when that collaboration is in pursuit of CPD’s mission and in line with our organization’s objectives and impartiality. CPD never works on behalf of any political entity.

HOW WE WORK

Research and Informal Dialogue

CPD pursues its mission to be a supporting partner to peace negotiators through two methods:

  1. Bespoke research, through our team and international expert network;

  2. Convening informal dialogue between warring parties.

HOW WE WORK

Strategy for Peacemakers

CPD is a strategic problem solving organization. We help mediators and peace negotiators identify pathways to peaceful settlement. We work as a partner for peace negotiators and mediators seeking to:

  1. Strengthen their peacemaking strategies;

  2. Develop their assessments of the options and tools available.

As part of our mission to expand the global community of skilled and effective mediators and peace negotiators, CPD also provides professional education and training programs on peacemaking strategy and peace process design.

HOW WE WORK

Peacemaking and Geopolitics

CPD’s key area of expertise is the nexus between geopolitics and conflict within states. Work that integrates these dimensions is an area of competence that is underdeveloped in the practitioner community. CPD exists to fill this gap.

CPD operates in both dimensions simultaneously, drawing on our expertise and extensive experience of intrastate and geopolitical negotiations. We believe this coordinated, multilevel approach is where the most effective levers for peacemaking and long-lasting change are to be found.

This is an area of growing importance due to the intensification of long-term strategic competition between great powers. This nexus shapes all peace processes today.
